I think that the current SAT scoring system is terrible. I have no idea why they wouldn’t want to accurately take the time to grade each essay as it should be graded. It not only makes people think they are writing good when they are writing bad, but the reverse of this statement is also true. When you grade off if there are big words and not off whether or not there is actual facts in the essay, then people will continue to think that that is ok and will continue to do that. Overall I think it is bad, but I do like the statement Gere said in the article. She said, “As rushed and crazy-seeming as the SAT essay-scoring process is, the fact that real-live humans are reading and grading the essays is a positive.”. I completely agree that humans should grade them; I just think the humans need to up the grading scale.
I think instead of looking for big words, they could instead look for things like sentence structure and paragraph structure. By just looking at how it is structured will not only help to make sure students know what they are doing, but it will also allow graders to grade just as they were. This means that humans will still grade our tests and it will help instructors instruct students on proper writing styles.
I think i’m pretty prepared to take a future test maybe, but not how it is as of right now. I am really big on structure and building my paragraph as it should be. I am also a person who likes factual evidence. This means I would sit there and waste time thinking of relevant examples and things I could use to answer the question. If they were to perhaps change the writing portion to where it leaned away from where it is now, then I would definitely be able to take the test.
I am the same way with writing. I like to make sure it looks good and is correct to the best of my ability. The time limit is just not enough. One thing I do not agree on is "they could instead look for things like sentence structure and paragraph structure." I believe I write okay, but sometimes I will get a essay back and it will be fragmented or something else will be wrong. On the SAT some people will get a bad score because of this. Other then that I agree with what you had to say about it.
